In 2017, Walter was selected as an assistant manager to the All-SEUSKF Women's Team that competed at the All-US Kendo Championships in San Jose, CA. In 2014, he was again selected to the SEUSKF Team which competed at the AUSKF National Championships in San Diego, CA. In 2011, he was selected to the Southeast US Kendo Team and captured the Fighting Spirit Award (Kanto Sho) in the Senior Division of the All-US Kendo Federation National Championships in Atlanta. Walter has competed and placed in several SEUSKF Championships over the years. He has also had the benefit of practicing with other sensei over the years to include Shinobu Maeda-sensei (Kyoshi, 7.dan), Philip Hyun-sensei (Kyoshi, 7.dan), Susumu Yazaki-sensei (Kyoshi, 7.dan), Michio Kajitani-sensei (Kyoshi, 7.dan), Arthur Murakami-sensei (Kyoshi, 7.dan), and more. He is continually seeking to learn more about kendo and is especially appreciative of the opportunity to learn from his fellow instructors of Memphis Kendo Association. Sensei Dach has also developed lower back problems limiting a lot of up and down from the floor techniques. Walter White started with Memphis Kendo tenure in the mid-1990s at the club's first location at the Raleigh Community Center. The schedule has been sporadic lately due to Sensei Dach's wife having had 4 strokes. He holds a 10th dan in Muso Jikiden Eishin-Ryu. Pat regularly contributes to the music ministries of several local churches, and has toured and worked directly with such music legends as Al Jarreau, Al Green, Kirk Whalum, Rufus Thomas, Toto, and Survivor. Esaka Sensei is a direct student of both the 20th Soke, Kono Minoru Hyakuren, and the 21st Soke, Fukui Torao.
He is a regular fixture as a solo artist in many clubs and restaurants around Memphis and continues to tour with bands across the country.
Pat is a professional musician/singer/songwriter, having been on the Memphis music scene for many years with such bands as Come In Berlin, The Lost Boys, Voodoo Village, and Justus Brothers. At Las Vegas, he placed in the top-16 of the Men's Individual Division, making him one of the best active, competitive kendo players in the United States at the time. National Championships in Cleveland, OH (1996) and Las Vegas, NV (1999). This journey led him to study Shotokan karate in Japan and to become a member of the Iranian National Karate Team, from 19721977. This book is a pictorial tribute to Ishido Sensei, documenting in images his journey and experiences in teaching Iaido to European students for the past 30. He was twice selected to the All-Southeast U.S. Rod Faghani Sensei Fudokan Founder and Head Instructor Kendo 6 Dan Renshi, Iaido 4 Dan Faghani Sensei's martial arts journey began with Karate in his youth in Tehran, Iran.
He is the only current student to have traveled to Japan to train directly with Memphis Kendo's founding father, Takaaki Nakahama-sensei (Kyoshi, 7.dan), prior to his death. Patrick Register was the first kendo (and iaido) student in Memphis.
